Rob Lycett Creative Suite 2: Photoshop Self Portrait Manipulation
Portrait Manipulation
Our First Workshop we had with Rob Lycett explored with Photoshop and editing self portraits that were taken a couple of weeks prior, we were shown different ways we could use various tools such as edge refinement to effectively separate our portraits from the green screen background, I had a rather difficult time with this due to my hair being excessive and wispy but after playing around with image refinement I was able to overcome this and begin editing my image.
This was a progressive screenshot of my 'self portrait manipulation', I experimented with a variety of tools such as hue to change the colour of my hair (which was originally dark green) and skin. The combination of the Marquee tool and blur effects helped me achieve this glitch VCR effect, my inspiration for this was a 80s vapour wave retro styling, strong examples of this style can be seen in the game 'Hotline Miami' and the Movie 'Drive'. Using a box with a blur effect on it i created a censor bar to cover my mouth to add a Punk appeal to the manipulation (between me, you and the gatepost, it was because I was ill and my lips were really cracked and chapped).
Above is the final outcome of this studio session, as an addition to the manipulation I created two triangles that loop around me, this was achieved by using the pen tool with a outer glow effect, to make the triangles look like they were looping around me, I used the eraser tool and erased the blue and pink lines at the top this added a great 3D effect to my manipulation. To keep with the purple and blue theme I added a high resolution purple galaxy background I particularly like the background combined with the colour of my hair in this.
Overall I really enjoyed creating this, being able to try out different tools and new techniques was an engaging experience which boosted my knowledge of photoshop, the completed manipulation currently serves as my cover photo on the social media Facebook. As a side note the positive feedback that the manipulation received at the end of the day was delightful.
