A Venture Through Huddersfield

Venture Through Huddersfield

Before joining the university of Huddersfield I had never visited Huddersfield. To gather my bearings I thought it would be a good idea to venture through the town to not only find my way between the train station and the university but also find some places of interest and leisure that I could visit throughout my time at the university.

I came across a church in the town centre, although I personally prefer more modern structures, the architecture of the church was appealing, I might consider drawing architectural features of the church in my spare time. I took two photos of the church using my phone, one part I particularly liked about the church was the clock tower with it's angled corners.

In comparison to Manchester, I did notice that Huddersfield has a very brown/black colour scheme to its buildings, the brickwork having a sandstone look to it. It was refreshing not seeing copious amounts of metal and glass as a skyline for a change.

As an addition, during my trip through huddersfield I came across a small arts and crafts fair in the Byram Arcade where artists of independent craft were showcasing and selling their products, such as trinkets, jewellery, soaps and bath-bombs, even home made jams and marmalade. I thought it was a wonderful example of traditional market/independent culture. And it personally felt quite comforting. Along side that I also found both an arts & craft store and comic book store in the same building as the independent market.

When looking for cafés and coffee shops I came across a place called Coffeevolution. A speciality Coffee shop and espresso bar with a rustic wooden appearance. One thing that I found interesting when I visited there was that they exhibit the work of local artists and photographers on the walls, it was nice to see peoples work being showcased in places such as a coffee shop. Additionally their ice tea is to delicious!

Interior shot of Coffeevolution, this image was obtained from Google because when I visited it was very busy and for the consideration of others I chose not to take a photograph.
