Location/Urban Drawing

 The first workshop task for John Kelly required us to undertake a location and urban drawing task using the town of Huddersfield as source material. Over the course of the afternoon we were advised to produce the minimum of four studies and cover at the very least four of the following subjects.

 Type in context (examine various fonts displayed on billboards, windows and signs)

 Reflections (examine reflections through windows and bodies of water)

 Architectural themes (Themes such as door knobs gargoyles windows etc)

 People and places (examine the populous in an urban environment such as coffee shops and stores)

 Skylines (explore the skylines of the architecture and document the variety of shapes visible)

 The whole group was split into three smaller groups in order to prevent overcrowding within the town centre and we were provided with A2 sheets of paper, some tracing paper and a wooden board to use as an improvised table as we ventured through Huddersfield. To assist with this task the group was given three areas to explore, those areas being the market piazza, the gothic quarter and the market street. I found this task to be rather enjoyable, due to being from manchester this task provided me with the chance to explore huddersfield with the addition of documenting the town's landmarks.

 unfortunately the weather didn't hold up and it started to rain heavily meaning we had to cut the workshop task short. however i was still able to get a decent varied amount of sketches done.
Additionally the preferred sketches of the workshop task were scanned in at 300 Dpi reduced down to 72 Dpi. 

 Unfortunately this session didn't entirely go to plan, when we started the session the weather was clear and sunny, however it started to rain rather heavily just after we began exploring the town. The rain persisted for the duration of the workshop and although majority of the class returned to the studio, a couple of students including myself stayed out using the nearby Piaaza centre as cover from the rain. This however ended shortly due to being kicked out off the premises for 'loitering' and being a 'trip hazard'. Although this session went sideways quickly, I was able to sketch a perspective view of the Piazza centre, Below is a scan of this sketch.

Self Negotiated Project: Clothing Brand Week 1: Brief Analysis and Proposed Idea

Brief Analysis and Proposed Idea The brief for the 'Self Negotiated Project' has been provided. After reading the project synopsis, it appears that it is less restricted in comparison to the previous briefs we have been set on this course. I  heard details about this project prior to the brief going live, which meant I had ample time to come up with a solid idea in preparation for this project. The project will undergo over a period of 5 weeks, considering the idea I have in mind with just over a month to complete it is going to be precarious. However the combination of the preparation prior to the brief and consistent development with the idea, I believe that I have a step up from the deadline. Denis Wood 'Everything Sings'

During one of Rob Lycett's Thursday lectures, one of the Various Books we were suggested to read up on was a book called 'Everything Sings' by Denis Wood. The book features an innovative portrayal to mapping, the maps are rather unusual and possibly considered impractical which is what I like about them, Maps are created with a purpose and a job, to get you from point 'A' to point 'B'. Denis creates these maps but in a very different perspective instead of showing roads and train lines, he illustrates a map of a small vicinity where the only thing illustrated are little circles and squares labeled "disfigured trees". Denis surveyed a place called Boylan heights and throughout this book he documents various neighbourhoods using creative and interesting subjects such as 'Squirrel Highway' where he observed how the local wildlife would traverse, in this case Squirrels would use the telephone wires to travel safely over roads.  One of my pers...
