Rob Lycett Creative Suite 5: Cinema 4D With Stephan Hibbert
Maxon Cinema4D
Due to Rob Lycett's absence, the final creative suite of this year will be tutored by Stephen Hibbert. This workshop will be exploring the programme Maxon Cinema4D, the files provided contain a task sheet which explains that Cinema4D lies at the intersection between 2D and 3D digital asset generation. It's industry leading toolset allows for the production of high-fidelity static and motion based work. Its capability can be applied to almost any creative brief and its rendered output options reach across the entire spectrum of digital media - from posters to packaging, and from movie e ects to full 3D animation and even VR.
Initially we will be looking at the various palettes and manager panels before going through a number of small experiments aimed at familiarising ourselves with a 3D computer graphic workflow.
As a class of graphic design students, we will be tasked with generating a 3D Logo or name in Cinema4D, by extruding a vector and adding a material. Optionally the vector can be created and imported from Adobe Illustrator.
As a link to my foundation studio practice I would like to try creating either a logo or name asset for my proposed idea for . The proposed file being a cyberpunk themed clothing brand called 'Pathetic Aesthetic'
After playing around with the shapes I came up with this below, the idea behind the creation was inspired by power reactors that you would see in science fiction films and games. I wanted to create something large and cylindrical with rounded edges.
whilst learning about the various tools through pre made assets, I decided to create more of a silly animated file. The asset was a combination of all the things we learnt through the pre mades along side watching tutorials on youtube and self learning through experimentation, with the end product I was able to create an edited sentence, cubes in an array formation animated to spin, a background and a camera focused on the animated array, all which was then textured with imagery sourced from google. Below is a screenshot of the silly asset.
Although the asset created was not serious, I enjoyed experimenting with the different tools and creating various shapes and textures. I would love to experiment further and develop my skills with Cinema4D, an idea that came to mind would be to create a scene from a beloved science fiction game Rimworld. the game is in fact a 2D top down colony building game so creating a 3D animated asset for this could prove to be challenging.
The scene I had in mind was a small plot of landscape with a wind turbine the main animation will be the turbine blades rotating but i would also love to try and create blades of grass blowing in the wind. For the scene i would like to have lighting and multiple camera shots added. Any progress will be posted into this post or in a separate post under the label 'Personal Development'
